Calling the seventh and eighth grade girls, it’s time to get your gloves ready, and catch some fly balls. It’s officially softball season! The season has had its ups and downs from the very start, but the big question is, what happened? Why was the team in trouble to begin with, and what made the team so devoted? The trouble came at the beginning of the season when the team didn’t have enough players to participate in games. In a softball game, there are nine players spread out along the field. The first game had to be rescheduled because there weren’t enough girls to fill all the positions. After that, the softball team became determined, letting nothing stop them from playing. They found girls who wanted to play and were able to rally enough girls for a full team.
“We had lots of growth this year, even with our late start and many rainouts, ending the season strong with 6 wins, 3 losses, and 1 tie. I expect to continue our off-season training, and I’m hoping to include next year’s seventh graders as well. The more time we can work together to develop as a team, the better off we will be,” Wade Rywolt, softball head coach, said.
“I think our softball season was great. We won a lot of games, we lost a few games, everybody progressed their skills on the field, and in the batter’s box, which was what we wanted. This is most likely the last time I’ll coach middle school softball, so I’ll miss that in general,” Amanda Borrelli, softball assistant coach, said.
The girls really did enjoy this year’s softball season, even though the beginning was rocky; they made it work, which made the team not only closer but stronger in the end.
“ I think [the season] went really well, we did really well as a team and worked together nicely. I learned that if we really try to work together, we can win and improve. I plan on doing it next season, and I look forward to playing with the older girls,” Presley Malsch (8) said.
Communication and teamwork had really important roles this season. It taught the girls that teamwork and communication on the field will help them win games.
“I think the season went really well, even though I signed up late; we won a lot of games, and we were overall a really good team. I am planning to play next season, and I look forward to winning a lot again,” Leah Warner (7) said.
