The 2025-2026 baseball season has just begun. Led by coach Matt Brown, this year’s team is ready to achieve success. However, the team has run into a problem. A total of 4 games have been cancelled, and a total of 3 have been postponed, resulting in significantly less playtime than expected for this season’s players. Coach Brown has coached the junior high baseball team for four years and hopes to help his players learn and grow in every way possible, despite weather-related issues.
“I see a lot of talent in this group, along with a genuine love for the game of baseball. As they continue to grow, I’d like to see them stay more focused and be intentional about improving every time we step on the field,” Coach Brown said. “I enjoy the opportunity to invest in these boys and add value to their lives, not just as athletes, but as young men as well.”
The team has currently played 5 games with a record of 3-2. Several other games were cancelled due to the weather, which has deeply affected this baseball season.
“The weather has been all over the place this month, so there have been times when it is very hot and times when it is rainy and cold. But it is what it is, but it just sucks that we haven’t played that much compared to what our schedule was supposed to be,” Isaac Mattern (7) said. Isaac has been playing baseball since third grade and has also played T-ball. “Our record is 3-2, so I am glad we are winning. We have been hitting a lot in the first five games, so that is good too.”
Despite the struggles with the unpredictable weather resulting in game cancellations, the middle school baseball team has been working harder than ever to learn and grow every day under coach Brown. The team is currently performing extremely well, and they hope to continue to do so in the future.
“I enjoy baseball because of my teammates and the people that cheer me on when I play,” Isaac Mattern (7) said.
