In sixth grade, students will present Ocean Expert Projects to third, fourth, and fifth graders. Each group will choose an ocean topic and teach younger students by using posters or slideshows.
“We did our project on camouflage and other adaptations,” Lorelei Carr (6) said.
“We did ours about seashells and hid them in slime so the younger kids could find the shells and name the type of shell,” Kinley O’Donald (6) said.
After their presentations, the sixth graders led hands-on activities for the kids.
“My favorite part of this project is the reaction of the students when we learn about it and seeing our classes teach them and realize what teachers have to do every day,” Ashley Spencer, sixth grade teacher, said.
This project gives sixth graders the chance to become teachers and leaders in their school. It also helps younger students learn why the ocean is important and how everyone can help protect it.
