The 6th grade honors class worked hard on their science conference projects. This year, they traveled to Penn State Beaver on May 7 to present them.
“This will be our ninth year. Science conference has been going on for ten years,” Ms. Jeanine Ging, 6th grade honors math and science teacher, stated. Science Conference is the biggest project of the year for the sixth grade honors students. They presented them in class three to four times to get ready for the conference.
The students had an option to apply for a scholarship from the Idealized Science Institute. They needed to write an abstract, one to two sentences on what their presentation was about, two essays saying what they want to do after high school, and one about their presentation.
There were six students who won the non-high school $500 scholarship. The students were Preston Deal (6), Naomi Kaskalavich (6), Lorelei Carr (6), Tyler Johnson (6), Matthew Hammel (6), and Jackson Dietrich (6). There were more scholarships given out to high school students.
“I think [the projects] are amazing. I think this is gonna be one of our best years. People are taking a lot of attention to detail, lots of people have helped each other out with preparing and setting things up. The process of going through and presenting to each other is going very well. So I’m really excited for this year,” Ms. Ging stated.
There were more schools at the conference this year than there have been in the past. The conference used to be held at Freedom, but this year they held it at Penn State Beaver.
Every kid only presented one time. The Freedom High School kids ran the conference and presented their projects.
