Skybacher Ministries, led by Mr. John Mohrbacher and Ms. Kristie Mohrbacher, continues to motivate students through its many events each year, including a flag football tournament, a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, a volleyball tournament, and a few dodgeball tournaments. The most well-known events are their “More Than” summer sports camps. Each summer, Skybacher Ministries hosts six sports camps on weekdays. This includes two basketball camps, two soccer camps, one flag football camp, and one playground camp.
Camps are open for students from grades K-7. Once you’re in eighth grade, you can become a C.I.T. (Counselor-in-Training) and the following year, a counselor. Each camp offers a positive environment with good sportsmanship and good motivation for each student to try their best.
“I had been doing Skybacher camps for as long as I could as a camper, and they’ve always been fun, so last summer I was a Counselor-in-Training,” Lincoln Murphy (8) said.
In addition to camps and a variety of tournaments, Skybacher has more laid-back events held at the Freedom Place in downtown Freedom, like craft days on the first Saturday of every month, the annual Great Big Group Date, and Pray n’ Play roughly every other Sunday from 6:30 – 8 pm.
These sports camps have been held for over 20 years and continue to involve and please students from all over the county. If you have any questions, want to get involved, or want to register, visit skybacherministries.org to make your summer even better than the last one.
“I really look forward to brightening the kids’ days as a counselor this summer!” Murphy said.
