Sixth graders have had a series of very eventful weeks, from Ocean Expert Day to the honors math Science Conference. This week’s special event for sixth grade is a four-day event called C.S.I., or Crime Scene Investigators, created by Ms. Jeanine Ging and Mr. Dave Mathews. This event spans from May 18th to May 21st. During these four days, students get to experience what it is like to be a C.S.I., crime scene investigator.
On the last day, the students try to solve a mock, or fake, murder with the skills that they learned over the three days before. Students will be put into groups, then given roles, such as a questioner, or somebody who will interrogate the suspects, and with their group, put together a slideshow proving how that suspect is the “murderer”. Many guests come in on C.S.I. day, such as officers like Officer Jones, while others may be judges or investigators. Each of these individuals helps to identify the perpetrator. All sixth-grade teachers, who are Ms. Ging, Ms. Strati, Ms. Spencer, and Ms. Orrico, teach skills that real C.S.I. investigators use. Some examples of the activities are fingerprinting and investigative questioning. C.S.I. happens during 2nd and 3rd period, and 5th through the end of 9th period.
“I hope to get all of the same speakers back and more,” Ms. Jeanine Ging, sixth-grade teacher, said.
