In December, the wrestling team began practicing, and they held their first meet of the season on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2025. They also had a major tournament on Friday, Jan. 2. It was held at Laurel. The team may not have as many players as other big sports, but they are just as mighty. The team has 9 players.
“It’s always been a part of my life, and whenever the position became available, I finally found some time to kind of take up that responsibility. This will be my second year [coaching],” Mr. Cole Eged, wrestling coach, said. Mr. Eged also teaches history at Freedom High School. The wrestling team has been showing hard work in their tournaments this year.
“I like wrestling.” Caden Roche (7) said. Roche has been wrestling for nine years.
“ So wrestling is undoubtedly one of the most difficult sports when it comes to the mental part of the performance. It is you on an island, right? Like you go out there to do your match,” Mr. Eged, Wrestling coach, said.
Mr. Eged pointed out how you don’t have any teammates helping you during the match, unlike football, baseball, and other sports.
“When it’s wrestling, it’s just you out there. Man versus man, girl versus girl, right? It’s one versus one. For that reason, it tends to be very emotional. It’s very psychological… it’s just a big mental sport.” Mr. Eged wrestling coach, said.
In general, wrestling is a sport that can teach a lot and help you improve.
