The Freedom Middle School Parents hosted a Halloween Dance after school in the gym on Fri, Oct. 24, as they’ve done for the past few years. Many people played volleyball, or crossnet, or simply hung out outside or at the concession stand during the dance. The dance was after school, in the gymnasium. It was really fun, almost everyone wore their costumes, and they played good music.
The dance was pretty chaotic; there were a lot of different music styles, and a lot of people. A few people played volleyball inside, or crossnet outside, while some people played games or hung out with their friends.
Crossnet is basically volleyball and foursquare in one game. You have to hit a ball over the net, and you have to make sure it doesn’t get out of the square, hit the net, or hit the floor. Four Square, one ball, don’t let it hit the ground more than once, make sure you don’t hit it before it touches the floor, make sure to hit it into another square, and that you hit it in general. Volleyball is simple: you have a net, a ball, and you have to hit it over the net, and make sure it doesn’t touch the ground, all while making sure you don’t touch the net at all.
They played a lot of different songs too, they played “Baby Shark,” some rap songs, some Taylor Swift, and they also played two songs from K-pop Demon Hunters. A couple of people asked for a K-pop Demon Hunter song, and others asked for “Baby One More Time,” which they didn’t end up playing.
A lot of the kids played foursquare or crossnet. I interviewed seven people, all of them were 5th graders except 1 person. I asked them if they played any music or danced, none of them requested any songs; they just listened to music, but they said they probably would’ve done rap. Only 3 people actually gave specific songs; they were ‘Baby Shark’, ‘Headshot 223’, ‘Seven Nation’, and ‘Morgan Wallen.’
I asked some kids if they wanted any changes, the most serious ones were free snacks, and different games. Free snacks would probably be a good idea because not a lot of people had money to buy stuff with, and a lot of kids didn’t play any games or dance, so more, or different games would probably also be a good idea.
Most of the people just enjoyed the music or ran around with their friends. A lot of kids had boba, which a lot of them were happy about, and a lot of them were happy about the snacks, and being able to hang out in general.
