Random Acts of Kindness Week is from February 14 to February 20. Random Acts of Kindness Day is on February 17. This year’s theme is “Love out loud”. The purpose of the week is to make kindness normal. The week celebrates the positive influences in each other’s lives. For the Random Acts of Kindness Week, on Tuesday, Feb. 17, YAP suggested students and staff wear pink or orange.
The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation’s goal is to make kindness the norm. Their website encourages kindness and gives examples of ways to do it. The website provides videos and episodes on how one act of kindness changed everything, how kindness transformed a school, bringing kindness to the workplace, and the science of kindness. The foundation has celebrated since 1995.
Random acts of kindness are important, beneficial, and boost happiness. Simple actions can make a difference in lives and around the school.
In a Google form, many students gave examples of random acts of kindness they’ve seen around the school. Many acts of kindness include compliments, helping with each other’s lockers, helping kids pick up their supplies they’ve dropped, and sharing items like pencils. Students around the school participate in doing a random act. Some of the random acts include giving small gifts, sitting with someone at lunch, and helping teachers. A random act can make someone feel happy or good about themselves. Many students in the survey said it makes them feel good and thankful.
Students were asked in the survey what they would do if they were given $500 to only use on others. Students replied with answers like buying clothes for others, helping the homeless, buying candy for them, giving them a feast, and donating.
