On Friday, Jan. 16, Ms. Olivia Evans took over for Ms. Alyssa Barone when she moved up to the high school. Ms. Barone was the 8th grade learning support teacher, helping students understand and catch up on work. Ms. Evans shadowed her for the first two weeks after returning from winter break. Ms. Evans’ arrival will leave a lasting impact on the school as Ms. Barone starts her next adventure in the high school.
“My first day at the high school will be Tuesday, Jan. 20, since we are off school on [Jan.] 19. Ms. Evans is a first-year teacher, and I am making this move in the middle of the school year. We decided that it would be best for both of us for her to shadow me to get to know students and learn how her new schedule works, so that we are able to support all of our students in the best way possible! I decided to make the switch to the High School for a few reasons. One of those reasons is that I am the Varsity Cheerleading Coach, and this will be more convenient for my team and I. The main reason I decided to move up to the high school is that I feel like I create very good relationships with my students, and then they leave to go to the high school, and I don’t get to see them continue to grow into wonderful young adults,” Ms. Alyssa Barone, learning support teacher, said.
Ms. Barone was excited about moving to the high school because she gets to see the students she built strong relationships with grow over their last four years at this school. She is also very excited to see the eighth graders up at the high school next year!
“I feel like I’ve always wanted to help people in some capacity. In high school, I wanted to do something in the medical field, but I realized it wasn’t for me, and I’ve always enjoyed helping with Schybacher camps and helping you all. This position kind of fell into my lap, and it was perfect for someone who had just graduated. I have been a sub in the middle school for the past summers and springs when I wasn’t in college, and I was also a long-term sub in third grade for three weeks, so I knew all the teachers, and I have been excited to come back. All the teachers have been so kind and supportive, and a big shoutout to Mrs. Barone because she has given me all her tips and tricks to stay organized, and how to work with the kids, and how to help them out. “Ms. Olivia Evans, learning support teacher, said.
