The 6-12 band concert took place at the high school on Thursday, Dec.18, 2025. The concert featured the 6th grade band, the 7th and 8th grade band, the high school concert band, the high school jazz band, and a combined piece with the 7th, 8th, and high school bands. The 6th grade band played “The Good King Rocks,” which is a rock version of “Good King Wenceslas.” They also played “Jingle Bells.”
The 7th and 8th grade band played “Santa the Barbarian.” It is a humorous musical piece by composer Randall Standridge, reimagining Santa Claus as a fierce warrior from the “winter wastes,” with familiar carols like “Up on the Housetop” and “Jingle Bells.” They also played “Oh Hannukkah.”
“Santa the Barbarian [was my favorite song],” Ms. Julia Lawrence, band teacher, said. “Santa the Barbarian was a crowd favorite.” It also featured a speaking part from Bryce Wagner (8), and much chanting from the band during the song.
The 7th and 8th grade band also performed a combined piece with the high school band titled “Holiday Sing-along.”
“[My favorite song] was Holiday Sing-along just because it was with the high school,” Bryce Wagner (8), said.
The next step for all of the bands will be to prepare for the spring concert, where the 5th grade band will have their first concert.
“When you play with [the high school band], it shows you what you can be capable of,” Ms. Lawrence said. All of the bands have been driving to get better with every performance. “It helped the 7th and 8th grade band get pushed a little bit.”
“[I’m looking forward to] playing with the high school [next year],” Bryce Wagner said.
