Have you noticed the different food in the cafeteria? Recently, the cafeteria has offered a variety of lunches, including fish sticks and pasta. In the past, we had more food that was frozen or just heated up, but now, since we have a new food provider, the lunchladies make the food from scratch.
“Some of the food is baked, and some of the food is frozen. We had a food director last year, but now we have a food provider, which is The Nutrition Group. I would say it’s mixed, but what we have now is better. Some say the PB&Js are different, but it seems that they are happier,” said Christine Haskey, the lunch lady. We have had many changes this year, and students have mixed opinions on them. Some say it is good, but others say they don’t like it.
“I like the old food better than the new food. My favorite lunch would be French toast sticks and the sausage patties. My least favorite meal is the KFC bowl with the chicken and mashed potatoes. I wish we still had the old Asian chicken. I don’t like the new food, so now I usually pack,” Jerah Shiring (8) said.
Over-processed foods, such as many school-provided lunches, can put people at risk of many illnesses. Ultra-processed food can cause respiratory, cardiovascular, and other diseases. By the school switching to The Nutrition Group, the school lowered the risks of these diseases because a lot of our food is fresher than it used to be.
