This football season, the cheer team had endless amounts of fun and made many memories. All the girls have created such strong bonds, and are extremely excited to start off the new basketball season. The girls were extremely capable this year, and have done many things that were very complicated, especially in the stunting category. The girls had four stunt cheers (one for each quarter), and one extra stunt that they performed at halftime at their last game, which is way more than in the prior seasons. They also accomplished learning over 100 cheers, and practiced their jumps.
Coaches for basketball season are the same as football season: Grace Lane and Leia Mosconi. During the football season, these coaches executed their jobs perfectly. The girls have created very strong bonds with coaches, and the eighth graders are very displeased with having to leave them after this basketball season. The coaches believe that the season went very well, and their experience coaching their first year has been wonderful. The coaches are also looking forward to the basketball season with very few changes needing to be made.
“I wish we would be able to travel to away games for basketball season. I know the girls had fun on the bus rides, listening to music and I think that if we traveled to different schools it would be fun for the girls,” Coach, Grace Lane stated.
“There aren’t any major changes for basketball besides learning new cheers,” Coach Leia Mosconi stated.
The captains for football cheer were 8th grade students Mila Bair and Tia Yeck. These girls carried out their job very well. Some of their great traits were that they helped many of their teammates with countless problems, they were very positive captains, and they were friends with all the girls and brought the girls all closer together.
For this basketball season, the coaches are planning on creating a halftime routine for the girls to perform. A significant change from last season is that the coaches most likely will be creating this routine rather than the captains, unlike in seasons past. This will only be the second year of having a basketball cheer squad. Being this, there are currently only 43 basketball cheers compared to the 136 cheers for football season. The team will continue to persevere to create more of these cheers, and strive to make their team the best it can be.
The girls all really enjoyed their experiences on the team this season. They all had very positive things to say, and great things to look back on.
The girls who did football cheer are required to participate in basketball cheer this season. There will be 18 cheerleaders, who all will all work together in order to put together this team. Overall, the season for football was great, and the cheerleaders and coaches can’t wait to see where this basketball season takes them.
