This Friday is Halloween, a day for costumes and fun. However, trick-or-treating will happen on Thursday evening. That night, children in costumes will walk around the neighborhood to collect candy.
Trick-or-treating is on Thursday for two main reasons. First, it does not interfere with school sports. Second, there are more police officers on duty, which helps keep kids safe. When Halloween falls on a weekend, especially Friday or Saturday, there are often more cars on the road. Scheduling trick-or-treating on Thursday means fewer parties and less traffic, making it safer for kids to walk around at night.
Our local communities have trick-or-treat at the following times: Conway: 6-8 p.m. on Oct 30, Freedom: 6-8 p.m. on Oct. 26, New Sewickley Township: 5-7 p.m. on Oct. 30. Kids going trick or treating on Thursday have the added benefit of having the whole weekend to go away on vacation since students are off on Friday due to parent-teacher conferences that day.
