Climate change is affecting the weather all over the Earth, including Freedom. Recently, the weather has fluctuated due to changes in the weather patterns. Weather patterns are the behavior of atmospheric conditions over a certain time period. These affect temperature variations, precipitation, wind direction, and pressure systems that change local climates. Weather patterns have an effect on climate change, and both have played a role in the recent weather changes.
NASA’s science page has information on some reasons why the weather has changed. When Earth’s ocean and air temperatures warm it affects the water cycle and weather patterns.
There is a difference between climate and weather. Climate is long-term and can be regional or global. Weather happens locally for short periods of time. Examples include rain, clouds, snow, wind, and thunderstorms.
Local weather comes from global patterns. Global patterns are long-term temperature variations. Freedom’s local weather has been dry, and recent rain. The dry weather has affected both sports and farmers in our area. The fields have been dry, and the crops need watering more often.
The Mitey Mites football team has had practice with the inconvenience in the weather.
“It doesn’t make a difference. Doing stretches on the ground is poky. When it has been raining, when we bear crawl up the hill, we slip a lot,” Elijah Miller, fifth grade student, Mitey Mites player said.
The dry grass affects some of the players during practice, but players can agree that the grass was hard to stretch and do drills. Sunshine or rain does affect their practices.
“The dry grass doesn’t interfere with practice. It’s a normal practice. One day it rained a whole bunch and we kept slipping,” Walker Donawitz, fifth grade student, Mitey Mites player said.
One last reason for the weather in the local area is because of the high-pressure system. The system is a clockwise flow of dry air that builds in a region behind a storm system that’s leaving. This relates to the dry weather and grass at football practice and then the heavy rain soaking the players.
The weather has affected the local area in many ways and affects many activities that involve students as well.
