Every year, Freedom Area Middle School has a beginning of the year assembly for the middle school students. It was very different from the past assemblies. It was held in the auditorium. In this event, the new fifth graders were welcomed into the middle school houses, including the Green House (leopard), Orange House (owl), Blue House (moose), and Yellow House (wolf). An envelope of colored confetti was opened above each fifth grader’s head. The houses are randomly chosen for the students.
“I’m looking forward to more assemblies like this.” Eva Thomas (5) stated. “Everything was organized.”
The PAWS assemblies from last school year were often held in the gym. This year, they decided to hold the kick-off assembly in the auditorium.
“‘The PAWS Committee’ wanted to try something different this year. We will continue to do the Celebration of Accomplishments and have some assemblies held in the gym,” Ms. Sara Heiman, a member of the PAWS Committee, said.
Last year, the Blue Moose house was the winner of the house cup.
“I’m really happy that I got into the blue house. I hope we win,” Eva Thomas stated.
To gain points for your house, you can turn in PAWS cards and take part in the upcoming gym assemblies or challenges to earn points. Let the house games begin!
