Our school recycles paper and soft plastic. Miss Sara Heiman, middle school librarian, started the idea in 2016.
“I like making the world a better place, it is our small part in the world,” Miss. Heiman said. Miss Heiman has to call the recycling crew every time the dumpster gets full. “It takes 1-2 weeks for them to finally come, and it’s free.”
Mrs. Shultz and Mr. Obman, fourth grade teachers, decided at the beginning of this year that the fourth graders would start recycling for the whole elementary school. They noticed how much paper they use and didn’t want it to go to waste. Last year, all the fourth graders had a project and learned how to create their own paper. After they made the paper they learned how to recycle it. When they finished the whole project they ended up submitting it to the announcements. That’s what gave them the idea to recycle the whole Elementary. Mr. Obman keeps a chart of how many pounds of paper they recycle every week, and right now it’s 200-500 lbs!
