The Middle School volleyball season has officially ended. This season, the team had seen a couple of new changes. One of the changes was having a new coach. The head coach, Coach George, had taken a new position at CCBC. Coach Melanie Smith, the assistant coach, became the head coach this year, and Coach Ashley Harvey became the assistant coach. The team also got new jerseys this season.
“This season was meant with several changes, including myself as the new head coach and Coach Harvey as the new assistant coach,” Coach Smith stated.
The seventh-grade record this season was 3-12, and the eighth-grade record was 1-14. The eighth-grade first set team had also participated in a tournament at Central Valley.
“We had also entered a team in a middle school Volleyball tournament for the first time since I’ve been involved with the middle school Volleyball program. I believe that it was a great learning experience and learning opportunity for the girls,” Smith stated.
The girls had many improvements over the season. Over the season, the major improvements that the team had were doing better with serving and communicating on the court.
“I think that I improved over the season, and my serves and passes got better,” Eighth-grader Ali Millward said.
Next season, they hope to make a lot of changes for the sixth graders who are moving up and the seventh graders who are moving up.
“The changes I would like to see and implement next season include open gym before starting mandatory practices, higher focus on learning the fundamentals immediately with a more advanced practice structure and schedule throughout the season.”
