On March 24, 26, and 28, cheer tryouts took place. Everyone who tried out in Junior High made the team, so there will be a total of 22 cheerleaders on the team. The first cheer practice took place on April 9 and was not mandatory, but was recommended for cheerleaders.
This season, there will be a significant number of changes from this season to next season. This is because last year’s Junior High coach, Alyssa Barone, has now moved up to a head coach position for JV and Varsity.
“My goal has always been to be a head varsity coach. I am so excited to have this opportunity to oversee all teams and continue to grow our cheer program. Junior high will have a coach. I want to make sure we find someone who is a perfect fit for the future of our program,” Mrs. Barone said.
Coach also hopes to have us start to do competitions within the next few years.
“I am hoping to continue to grow the cheerleading program each year. In the next few seasons, I hope we can add a competition team and begin our competition era,” she stated.
One major change to this season is that it is mandatory to participate in both football and basketball cheer. This decision was made to make our team more involved; many schools in surrounding areas have also made this change which inspired us to do the same.
Overall, this season has some changes, but this season is hoped to be great!
