The Math 24 competition has kicked off once again. This year, the competition was held at Penn State Beaver on Tuesday, March 11.
Math 24 is a game where players race to use all four numbers on a card and get an answer of 24. Grades four through eight may take up to four students to compete in the Math 24 competition. To settle this, every grade has a playoff round. The top four students per grade are taken to the Math 24 competition.
“It increases competitiveness among other students and gains interest in mathematics,” Mrs. McCanna, eighth grade math teacher, said.
“I like that it’s a math game,” Lincoln Hoover, sixth grade Math 24 player, said.
Math 24 is a very fast paced game that helps benefit students’ education.
“The food and probably just I love math [is what I like about Math 24],” Coltin Schoedel, sixth grade Math 24 player, said.
This year, we had two Freedom students who placed in the Beaver County Math 24 competition. John Rywolt, fourth grade student, placed first in all of fourth grade in Beaver County. Ayden Yeskovich, sixth grade student, placed third in all of sixth grade in Beaver County.
“[Math 24] has taught me how to do math problems quicker and it has helped me with my math multiples and finding twenty- four quicker,” Ayden Yeskovich, sixth grade Math 24 player, said.
Whether it is teaching students their multiples, or increasing students’ competitiveness, Math 24 has taught students many things and it will continue to throughout the years.
