This season was the first season for the boys basketball team having cheerleaders. This team came to be when the cheerleaders for football season were so upset having to leave cheer till the next summer. This season went extremely well for the girls. They experienced new cheers, a halftime routine that the boys were included in, and tons of stunts.
In upcoming seasons it will be mandatory that if you do basketball cheer you must do football cheer and so forth, this change is because some students only participate in one and things will go more smoothly because there will be the same girls and not a hassle to sign up.
The cheerleaders, coaches, and basketball players all enjoyed this season and experience. They had the following to say on the season and experiences together.
“ I think our first season of basketball cheer went amazing! We had so many cheerleaders join our team. I will be coaching Freedom Area School District again next year, and can’t wait to expand our program. I hope to continue to get new girls interested in cheerleading and that the program continues to grow. I loved that we added in a halftime routine and were able to have the eighth grade boys basketball team join us,” coach Alyssa Barone said.
“Having fun with the girls and just having the opportunity to do basketball cheer was great for me and highly enjoyable,” 7th grade cheerleader, Jerah Shiring said.
“Getting to spend time with my friends and pushing myself to new limits while learning new things was my favorite part of the season,” 7th grade cheerleader, Maddie Bair said.
For some of these girls, this was their first experience cheering and they have grown a lot in this short period of time they have had. Most girls enjoyed this time and plan on returning next season, and seasons to come cheering on the Freedom Bulldogs.
