For the past 20 years, Skybacher Ministries has been serving the Beaver Valley through sports camps, monthly tournaments, after-school programs, and open gym outreach. Skybacher Ministries opened The Freedom Place in the old Lighthouse Lutheran Church in Freedom and they now have a place to call home. The building was opened and dedicated at the annual dinner auction on Saturday, Feb. 15.
“At the end of March [2024], we held our annual dinner auction for the first time in years. I addressed the crowd and said, “I don’t feel like we are done dreaming, that I still believe we will have a place to call home and God wasn’t done with Skybacher Ministries. We needed to keep dreaming, and some of the things pushed to the side through Covid needed resurrecting and breathed life into them,” Mr. John Mohrbacher, Skybacher Ministries director, stated.
“I have been running Skybacher for 20+ years, and we have always wanted a place to call home,” Mohrbacher said.
They started looking for a building in March 2024 and got the keys on April 19, 2024.
They held their first program, a volleyball tournament, on November 17, 2004.
There was a someone special dance at the Freedom Place this past Saturday, Feb 22 for students in K-6th grade.
“The someone special dance was good and it felt way different than having it in the gym. The dance was about 3 hours, the music was good I liked it, and there were I’m guessing 150 people there,” eighth–grade student Lily Tyler, who volunteered at the dance, said.
