Former fifth-grade teacher, Ms. Amy Nicely, has recently retired. The School Board accepted Ms. Nicely’s retirement at the Thursday, Nov. 7 meeting, effective Oct. 4. Ms. Lindsey Chancellor, new fifth grade teacher, was hired on Dec. 1. Ms. Chancellor has been teaching for about ten years and loves meeting many new and helpful people.
Ms. Chancellor taught fourth and fifth grade for nine years in Southern Maryland. She then moved back to the Pittsburgh area after having her son to be closer to family. She took a job at a financial firm for two years before getting back to teaching in the classroom.
Many of her students have had an inconsistent year of teachers since there were several different substitutes filling in during the first two nine weeks. Trying to get the students into a daily routine can be a major challenge, as well as getting the classroom into a way that works for Ms. Chancellor.
“I love being able to see my students learn something new. I like when I can see the “light bulb” in their brains click on and know that I helped them to accomplish something new,” explained Ms. Chancellor.
