This year we are replacing two fifth grade teachers, Mrs. Sherry Perry and Ms. Amy Nicely. Mrs. Perry is retiring in January and has been teaching at Freedom for over 33 years. Mrs. Perry teaches fifth grade science and math. Ms. Nicely retired in September and taught ELA and Social Studies. Both have contributed their time and effort to help students learn, and also to make sure it was fun and enjoyable for them. The last class they both will teach is the class of 2032.
Mrs. Perry has been a teacher at Freedom for over 33 years. Mrs. Perry throughout the years has done some amazing science projects such as the ecosystem in a liter bottle, and so many more. A couple years back, she even used to run a science fair for her class too.
Ms. Nicely always went out of the way to make learning enjoyable for her students. Sadly, she has already retired and a sub has been filling in for her room until they find a new permanent teacher. Ms. Nicely also always found a way to make learning creative by trying new ways of teaching.
Since both of them are retiring, new teachers will be needed to fill in their spots. Currently, there has been a sub in Ms. Nicely’s class. Mrs. Perry’s class, however, is still normal. Mrs. Perry will be teaching up until the day she retires.
“I have taught a total of 33 years. Out of those 33 years I have taught fifth grade for 14 years. The thing I am going to miss the most is seeing kids learn something new. My plan after I retire is I am going to get another job working with the elderly. And sadly my last day is Jan. 10,” Mrs. Perry, fifth grade teacher, said.
“The thing I’m going to miss about Mrs. Perry the most is when she gives us candy. My favorite thing that she taught us was the project of building your own dream home,” Kori Scobie, fifth-grade student, said.
“I’m going to miss both of them so much. Throughout the years we made so many good memories together as teachers. Mrs. Perry has done some cool things like the science fair, and Ms. Nicely has done some cool things like teaching in a creative way. They have both taught at Freedom for a very long time,” Mrs. Tina Boyd, fifth grade teacher, said.
“For Ms. Nicely’s position, we interviewed six candidates and selected one and hired her. She will begin on Dec. 3. And her name is Mrs. Chancellor. For Mrs. Perry, we are currently accepting applications and doing interviews next week,” Mr. Jeff Griffith, principal, said.
We will hopefully be seeing the new teachers that are coming soon. And we all will miss Ms. Nicely and Mrs. Perry so much. They had left such a powerful legacy that will live on forever at Freedom.
