This year, Cheer Coach Alyssa Barone has decided to start a winter cheer team. This team has 16 cheerleaders. Their first game will be held on Dec. 10, and their first practice was on Nov. 14. These cheerleaders will cheer at only home games for both seventh and eighth grade basketball games.
Coach Alyssa Barone has been working extremely hard to teach these cheers vastly due to the fact that there are only going to be five practices before the season starts. This is the first year of winter cheerleading. The team was made because they wanted to expand the cheer program due to it being such a good season for the girls.
“I am very excited this season. We have a few new cheerleaders and I am always happy to coach more girls. I am looking forward to seeing how well the cheerleaders work together and create bonds with each other.” said Barone. She continued with, “I already know the cheerleaders are going to be fabulous! They have a strong work ethic and are determined to be great. I hope to increase the program in future seasons where our team has 20-25 cheerleaders every season. I am hoping to continue raising money for those in need in our community in the future.”
This season the cheerleaders didn’t have to try out because it is a new program. All the cheerleaders seem to be very excited to see how this season goes.
“My favorite part so far is working with my team. I hope to have a fun time and to have a good season. I am not looking forward to having practices right after school. I think this season will be great, and depending on how it goes I will most likely do winter basketball cheer again,” seventh grade student- cheerleader, Tia Kaufman said.
They have plans to increase school spirit, and would love to see many people attending their games.
