Holden Eckman is a twenty-month-old baby boy from Freedom battling leukemia, a type of cancer that affects his body’s blood-forming cells. Holden is in need of a bone marrow transplant and a lot of people donated money toward this cause.
Holden’s mother, Sydney Eckman, works as the assistant coach for the Freedom High School girls’ basketball team, along with Holden’s grandfather, John Kaercher, being the main coach.
Riley Tokar, a senior at Freedom Area High School, sold t-shirts for her senior project to raise money for Holden and his family. Riley’s fundraiser was themed with the color orange, which is the color of leukemia. Riley raised $2,206 from selling t-shirts. Riley also sold orange sticker ribbons with Holden’s name on them and raised $402 from them. In total, Riley raised $2,608.
The middle school cheerleading team also came up with a fundraiser that would raise money for Holden. The cheer team sold orange bead bracelets and temporary tattoos in the cafeteria at both A and B lunches, and also at football games. The cheerleaders, while raising money at the games, did a “spectators choose the stunt”.
The Student Government is putting on a penny drive in which all of the money will be donated to Holden’s family.
The Eckman and Kaercher families are amazing parts of the Freedom community and we would love to help. Please help donate towards this cause to keep Holden with his family.
