Have you noticed the food in the cafeteria tastes different? This year, the school district changed our food provider after our old director of food services resigned. Now, the school’s food provider is the Nutrition Group. With them, the cafeteria makes everything from scratch, and with fresh ingredients.
“I have worked in the cafeteria for 16 years. Our old provider was Randy Walker and our new one is the Nutrition Group,” Jackie Dunbar, Head Cook, said. But it also takes longer to prepare the food since they are making it from scratch.
“The new food is not better but also not worse than the old food. I prefer the old food because they gave us bigger portions, and I am happy that we have a new food provider. I don’t think we should go back to the old provider because the new food is healthier than the old food,” Jameson McGowan, a sixth-grade student, said.
The school’s old food service director, Randy Walker, was shared between Freedom and Riverside. He resigned last year and instead of hiring a new food service director, the school district contracted with a Food Service Management Group which is called the Nutrition Group.
