Middle School Band Night was an exciting side-by-side that took place with the High School Marching Band. Ms. Julia Lawrence is the new middle and high school band teacher. The side-by-side practice took place on Tuesday, Sept. 17, from 6-8 pm. Middle School Band Night took place on Friday, Sept. 20, starting at 5 pm at the high school.
The seventh and eighth grade band started practice within the first week of school, and was given music weekly. Some students have had different opinions on the process.
“I was worried at the pace the music was coming to the band,” Ava Bonzo, seventh grade band student, said.
Other band students were worried while others were not.
“When I first found out, I was kind of nervous. I thought I’d be messing up in front of everyone. When we started practicing, it made me feel better about it. When my dad came it was a surprise, but seeing him calmed my nerves,” Klaire Evans, seventh grade band student stated since her dad participated with the Veterans.
“I was very excited. I always thought it would be a good opportunity. I thought it would get me more involved with the band,” Bonzo, seventh grade band student, stated despite her nervousness when asked how she felt about it when it was first assigned.
It was a successful night. In the end, 22 students participated.
“I thought we did pretty good especially since we’ve never practiced with the high school,” Bonzo, seventh grade band student, stated.
When asked the question, “Would you rather practice for the Winter concert?” students said “no.”
“No, I would much rather have done this. Ms. Lawrence knows what she is doing,” Bonzo, seventh grade band student stated.
Middle School Night was a surprise for some students. Some asked why it was brought back.
“It shows middle schoolers what the band program will be like when they’re older. It lets them work with the high schoolers,” Ms. Lawrence stated.
Most of the middle school students who participated thought it went well.
“I thought it went well, but a little crazy. There were so many kids, but it made me happy” Ms. Lawrence stated.
Overall, Middle School night went well. It turned out to be a success. Hopefully, the sixth grade students will be able to do it again next year.
