For the past couple of years, our middle school volleyball team has yet to have real jerseys. If students are going to play a school sport then they should be wearing an official uniform just like basketball, soccer, and softball. The uniform should also be school-appropriate, and apply to the dress code. Girls wear their volleyball uniforms to school and they shouldn’t because it doesn’t follow the school dress code. If 13 and 14-year-old girls in the middle school want to wear that it is fine, but it at least has to follow school policies.
“When the Varsity has their uniforms and they are done with them they usually ship them down. If the middle school is wearing the volleyball shorts and jerseys, unless we make a change those are the ones that we will be wearing,” Mr. Dave Badamo, Athletic Director, stated.
“I agree that middle schoolers should not be wearing bottom-of-the-pocket shorts and that’s something that we can work on, but we won’t get it till February.” Mr. Badamo said.
When students don’t follow the school dress code even if it is a problem it can get them in trouble and it’s not like it is hard to follow it.
“There was no big issue with the jersey shirts, it was the shorts that were hard because I would have to keep telling kids you can’t wear those shorts, but they are stubborn about it,” says Ms. Cathy Baker, middle school secretary.
Wearing t-shirts isn’t a huge issue. It would be nice if our school team could have some sort of athletic wear while playing. They shouldn’t be wearing cotton shirts, they don’t look good. They should be wearing silky T-shirts with the option of wearing leggings or appropriate shorts.
