The eighth grade boy’s basketball season has so far hit the ground running. The first game wasn’t really a game, but instead a scrimmage between Freedom Middle School’s eighth grade team and Sto-Rox in Allegheny County. The main difference between a scrimmage and a real game is that a scrimmage does not count for the final team record. The scrimmage was in Allegheny County, on Dec. 12.
The first real game has also come to pass. The game was between Freedom and Fort Cherry. The game was instead a home game this time. The first quarter started out promising with Freedom getting the first point, a three-point shot. But, the first quarter did not end promisingly with Freedom with 12 points, and Fort Cherry with 13 points. A one-point difference. Luckily, Freedom made an astonishing comeback, by the end of the second quarter the score was Freedom 24, Fort Cherry 19.
The third quarter did get a little risky though, with the score being Freedom 26, and Fort Cherry 25. Freedom did end up pulling through at the end with the score being 46 to 36, a ten-point difference, with Freedom coming out on top.
“I do believe they can keep their record for this year,” Mrs. Tina Boyd, scoreboard and clock operator, said. “I think they will win, and they will win by a lot,” Mason Leasha, sixth grade student, said. For the rest of the season, it could be anyone’s game, But for now, Freedom seems to be going for their goals.
