Have you ever looked around on Christmas morning and saw wrapping paper and gift bags everywhere? According to RoadRunner Recycling, Inc. Americans produce 25% more trash during the Holiday season.
There are lots of ways we waste things without even thinking about it. We waste wrapping paper, plates and silverware, cardboard, bubble wrap, and even Christmas trees. The funny thing is that we unpack all the things we order and rewrap them in wrapping paper, making twice the waste per gift.
Here are some tips you can use to reduce waste. 1. Instead of wrapping paper which isn’t recyclable you can use newspaper (even this one), maps, and paper bags which can all be recycled. 2. If you get a live Christmas tree then, when you’re done with it you can get it mulched. 3. We throw away 38,000 miles of ribbon a year so you should keep all the ribbon you can when opening gifts. 4. When buying gifts you should get ones that have no or little packaging.
