The sixth grade band is prepping for the winter concert. The sixth grade band has practice Monday fourth period, and Wednesday or Thursday during ninth period. The band teacher is Ms. Emily Rickard. The only grade that will not play in this concert is fifth grade. They will have their concert in the spring.
“I would say the band has come pretty far this year. Sixth grade band has been doing a great job. This week all of my classes so far have played through our music, which is a huge step. The concert is on December 19, and that is on a Tuesday. The time is 7:00 in the high school auditorium. It was challenging when the bees came in, but I think all the kids did a really good job trying to stay focused, even though we were in a new space and we were dealing with lots of bee creatures. I’m really proud of all the students for continuing to do a good job despite those challenges. I’m thankful that we’re still able to be ready to go. The seventh, eighth grade , and the high school band will actually perform at the same concert. So, all bands, sixth through twelfth will play. One of my favorite things about this concert is that my younger groups get to see the high school band perform, and the high school band is performing some great, popular music from the Polar Express and The Nightmare before Christmas. Which I think all our students will enjoy.” Ms. Emily Rickard, Band director, said.
“I think we were not the best in the beginning, but we are now playing full songs. I don’t think we were set back due to the bees because we were in the auditorium. I think we are not ready for the concert and need more practice,” Gemma Hershey, sixth grader, said.
“Seems it has gotten better since last year. We have more practices and she is more flexible with practices. No, we had practices in the auditorium, and it wasn’t that bad. I think we are pretty close to being ready, but we may need a little more practice.” Max Martin, sixth grader, said.
