What is El Nino? El Nino is a climate pattern in the Pacific Ocean that can affect weather.
Forecasts expect El Nino will continue through the spring with a 75-85% chance it will become a strong event. El Nino will increase in storms during the winter, so as a result of that, snow is more likely to occur. The shift of weather typically brings wetter and cooler weather to the south while the north becomes drier and warmer. The weather for El Nino calls for heavy rainfall in the southwestern United States and in California, drier and warmer than normal conditions across the northern US while causing more rain and snow across the south and much of the east coast.
So does that mean we are going to get more snow this winter or have less than we have had previously? El Nino appears to bring a substantial amount of snow fall, El Nino is more likely to bring more snow this winter.
