If you’re from Beaver County, you can probably remember going to Young’s Custard Stand on a hot summer day and getting one of its three iconic flavors. But unfortunately, Young’s Custard Stand, a renowned family owned business since 1948, was shut down on Sept. 24 by the owner, Paul Young, after 75 years of serving the communities of New Sewickley, Rochester, Freedom, and the surrounding areas
The reason for the owners closing the beloved ice cream shop is that after the previous owner, the current owner’s father Paul Young, unfortunately passed away in 2020 from a short battle with Covid 19. The family who owned the business, the Youngs, were tired after so many years of running the same business.
“I’d say it was really good because their flavors were unique in their own way. We would usually stop by after we got done swimming at the pool,” Bryce Wagner, sixth grader, said.
“It’s just, I’ve never enjoyed a summer in my life. And now it’s time to move on.The amount of people who showed up on our last day, that stood in line in the rain, shows me how much this place meant to everybody,” Paul Young, owner, said.
From when the stand started in 1948, to 1988, where Keanu Reeves played in The Prince Of Pennsylvania, and finally when it sadly closed in September, the good times have kept on rolling. This iconic landmark of Beaver County will be missed by many across the county and the larger state of Pennsylvania.
