Football season has come to an end and the Freedom Middle School team put up a great fight this season, winning three games and losing three, with the final game being canceled.
“Our biggest challenge was schedule, we played at the big school side of the division which consists of the AAA/AAAA schools,” Mr. Joe and John Leasha, middle school football coaches, said.
When asked what the team’s biggest challenges were, a majority of eighth graders had said it was the new players. The new players were great challenges because they haven’t had the opportunity to work with the now eighth graders since two years ago when they were together on the Lil Bulldogs team. The team was great this and last year and hopefully will be great again in the future. Although they have their challenges they still always put up a great fight and try their best.
“My favorite thing about this season was the Western Beaver before we lost, during the game when we were winning,” quarterback Karter Brown, eighth grader, said. The score for this game was 24:14 with us losing.
“Central Valley, the game was used as a senior project that raised funds which went to coach Mr. Mark Ellison on our staff who fell ill in the middle of the season,” Joe and John Leasha said.
“It was good to see two communities working together to help in the time of need,” also said by the coaches.
The most invested on the team was Karter Brown who was named by everyone when they were asked. He is always trying to get as many people as he can at the games, including asking teachers and students.
“Our eighth graders who wanted to continue building the middle school football program and leaving a great starting block for next year’s team,” said the coaches.
“The eighth graders this season have definitely improved but the team overall has not,” Karter said. Although last year the team had only lost one game and had won five, this season wasn’t very bad.
“My favorite thing about this new season is new plays,” right tackle and defensive end, Kyle Spiker, eighth grader, said. This season the coaches decided to add new plays for the offensive line. Players said these new plays were much easier and more interesting.
“I think the season went well but we really need to improve on consistency and giving more effort,” Easton Ward, linebacker and line substitute, eighth grader said. Although the team put up a great fight they still could definitely improve on certain things. This season ended greatly and hopefully next year we can improve more on these things.
