The Freedom Area Middle School boys and girls soccer season came to an end on October 2. The boys played their last game against Montour. The girls also played Montour to end their season. Both the boys and girls did very well this year. The boys won 6 out of 10 games and the girls won 2 out of 10 games this year. Unfortunately, the girls didn’t have the best season, but they did have a big win against Hopewell with the score being 4-0. That was a good score compared to the other games they played.
The boys and girls got together after the season ended and had a big pizza party and scrimaged each other. This made them feel a little better about themselves because they didn’t win as much as they wanted.
The new girls coach, Josh Arend, is 21 years old and went to school at Beaver. This is his first year coaching, but he definitely made a big improvement to the girls, as the year went on. When the girls started they didn’t have the best first game while playing Blackhawk with the score being 11-0 but they definitely made an improvement, when they played that team a second time and only lost 4-0.
“I think the team made a big improvement, grew as a team and grew as people,” Coach Josh said.
The boys lost their first game to Blackhawk too, but not as bad as the girls did. Both teams still tried their best and didn’t give up. As the season ended the boys won their last game, unfortunately the girls did not. The boys had a better season than the girls this year, but the girls still tried their best. Overall the boys and girls soccer team had an amazing season.
“I think we had a great season, and improved throughout the season,” Kaitlin Evans, seventh grader, said.
As the season went on both teams improved their passing and positions. Both teams got better at working as a team and became better friends.
“I think the team learned their positions and played very well, their passing improved and they moved as one unit on the field,” Coach Tim Casto, boys coach, said.
