Freedom Area School District was originally supposed to start school on Aug. 24. Due to construction, it wasn’t possible to start that early. Some changes were made and every student went back to school on Sept. 5.
What were the effects with school starting late? Look at what Ms. Diane Workman, the Superintendent, had to say. Ms. Workman stated, “The effect with school starting late is that the end of the school year will go into June. Since we had to start late, we considered going virtual.” She is saying that since the school started a week late, they had an option to let the kids go virtual for a few days until school actually started, but they decided not to do that.
Why did school start late? Look at what Mr. Jeff Griffith, the middle school principal, had to say. Mr. Griffith shared, “School started late due to construction in middle school. They worked on the roof and put new air vents in the classrooms.” He announced that he thinks kids work better in the cold instead of a hot classroom. I agree because I, as a student, work way better in a cold room instead of a hot room.
“I went to a fair and my friends came over. My family and I also played with our animals a lot”, Addison Stumpf, fifth grader, said. This is what she said about the new air conditioning. “I am very happy there’s air conditioning because I don’t like being sweaty in a hot room.”
Saige Lester, fifth grader, stated, “I was happy there was an extra week of school because I got to sleep in and play outside more. I’m happy there’s air conditioning because it’s cool wherever I go.”
