There have been many problems with the buses since the start of school. There are four buses that haven’t been running this year so far: bus 32, 33, 37, and 39.
This really affects the kids because they depend on their buses to come and get them. It’s also really hard on the parents who have to work because they have to drop their kids off at school and pick them up after school. The problems start with either not being able to find a driver or the bus just not working. These problems just recently started happening because we are now using a new bus system. But the bus problem hasn’t just been with our school, other schools are having bus problems. On bus 33, they had a Seneca Valley bus driver to and from school.
“We had to switch bus companies because our old bus company [Rhodes Transit] had gone out of business,” Ms. Diane Workman, superintendent, said.
When the school switched bus companies, they didn’t think that they would have many issues transporting kids to school and back, but since ABC Transit has other schools to take care of, the bus drivers have to take extra time for other schools too.
“Whenever we switched bus companies we anticipated that there would be issues and it usually takes a couple of months to switch bus companies,” Workman explained. She explained that they hopefully will have two more bus drivers by November, so they could have extra bus drivers in case a bus or two doesn’t have a driver.
“I feel like the school should have extra bus drivers since kids are missing school because their parents are at work and it’s kinda pointless to have to miss school because you don’t have a bus,” Madison Dalesandro, seventh grade student, said.
We used Rhodes transit for a few years but now we use ABC transit, but for our off-campus students we use Frye Transit.
