During the 2023 school year band and chorus students have been affected by an unlikely intruder…BEES. Two of the teachers have had issues with the bees, Mrs. Newman and Ms. Rickard. Ever since this year’s renovations that delayed school there have been lots of bees in the school. Some students and teachers have been stung by these flying insects.
“I’ve been affected by the bees a lot. I’ve been calm, but the students get really scared, especially the students who are really scared of bees. Two students have gotten stung in my room but thankfully they were not allergic. In chorus, people will spot bees and I will have to stop rehearsal to go and kill the bee. On Tuesday, Sept. 26 we didn’t go in the room because of how bad the bees were. On Wednesday, Sept. 27 we were told we weren’t allowed to go in the room because the maintenance workers were spraying the hive,” middle school music teacher, Mrs. Jen Newman said.
In recent times the band room got shut down on Friday, Oct. 6 and everyone had to have band in the auditorium but since Oct.16 the band room has been reopened.
“The bees really had an impact on the band. Several bees would fly around the room. Yes, unfortunately two students have gotten stung. They definitely created a distraction and it made it hard for some students to focus.” middle school band teacher, Ms. Emily Rickard said.
