Last year the PAWS team decided to add the four houses (yellow, blue, orange, and green) and the Freedom Cup, where the four houses compete for points, to the PAWS program. Last year the yellow Wolf house won the Freedom Cup and a field trip to Flying Squirrel trampoline park, along with an outside pizza party back at the school.
This year there have been a number of additional changes to the houses, including sorting the new fifth graders and new students into each of the four houses.
“It was fun but nervous and it was funny to see everyone’s reaction to getting their envelope dumped on them,” Josie Hall, fifth grade student, said about getting sorted into houses.
Last year, the students were sorted into their houses by homeroom, but this would not work now if the students stayed in their home room. To work around this and have everyone keep their houses, the fifth graders would have to be sorted into their houses and home rooms would mix students from different houses together.
This year also added house days. During these days, classes are shortened and at the end of the day every student will gather with their house to participate in and complete games and teamwork activities, as well as create a cheer, motion, and motto.
