Let’s Kick off the Soccer Season

The Freedom Middle School soccer teams are getting the season started with brand new players and excited veterans from the previous year. The season was off to a rough start, but on Sept. 7, the boys team won 7-1 and the girls tied 1-1 against the Blackhawk Cougars.

“I feel great because it’s the first win of the season,” Nick Fessler, seventh grade soccer player, said. “I feel like our team worked together a lot more.”

Both teams have room for improvement, but on Sept. 12 the girls took home their first exciting win against Hopewell. The end score was 2-1, the goals made by middle forward Cheyenne Sharp and middle defense Chloe Lundy. The season seems to be turning around for the girls but on the day of the girl’s big win, the boys had another loss.

At the next game on Sept. 14, both the boys and girls lost with a player on each team losing by more than two goals. Both the girls’ team and boys’ team have had their fair share of ups and downs with figuring out how to work together with new players and star players leaving the team to join the high school team.

The girls who played last year are still struggling to adjust after their prized players moved to high school and they now have to fill those players’ shoes. The new players are trying just as hard to adjust since some of them have had little soccer experience while others have experience and are just trying to fit into the team. The boy’s team is having the very same struggle with the new team members but the season is not over yet. There are still a couple of weeks left in the season and the teams have high hopes for improvement.
