XC team runs into a new season

The Freedom Middle School Cross Country team has gained three new members since last year. We have two Freedom athletes on the team, and two Rochester  athletes, due to Rochester not having a cross country team from the lack of interest in running among the students. 

Running is one of the healthiest activities that you can do. Running is a great way to improve your health, and is great for mindfulness.  It’s also a great way to improve your cardiovascular health, which is the health of your heart and blood vessels. Running is a great way to burn calories and build strength in your muscles, including your core muscles and lots of muscles in your legs, like your glutes, hamstrings, and calf muscles.

Running  is also a great way to improve your mental health, as well as a great form of meditation. A 2014 study at the University of British Columbia revealed that running can improve your memory, so if you forgot what you had to do or what you needed to get at the store, running may help with that. Running is also a good way to improve your mood. A study at ACSM’s Health and Fitness Journal revealed that physical activities (including running) can help decrease the symptoms of depression and anxiety. It also helps with needing to focus, and another thing that running helps with is it brightens your mood.
