Mr. Richard Heisler was an eighth grade science teacher for about 13 years. He began his teaching career at Freedom Middle School in 2003. In the 2019-2020 school year, he was the seventh grade teacher.

Mr. Heisler passed away unexpectedly just over the summer. He passed away on Thursday, July 2, at the age of 42.  How he passed away is still being determined.

Mr. Heisler made a huge difference in Freedom Middle School in so many ways. He made a lot of connections with the students here at Freedom. He could talk to you just about anything, even if it didn’t interest him at all. He also had a passion for science, and he loved teaching it.

“He could tell if you were having a bad day, he would go out of his way to make you happy,” said Christopher Denkovich, eighth grader.

He could keep his students connected in the lesson, whether it was a lesson where you got to go outside and look at the clouds or the stars. Heisler was also the Cross Country coach for Freedom Middle School and High School as well as a track and field coach.

“He made so many connections and relationships over his 15 years here,” said Mr. Ryan Smith, principal of Freedom Middle School.
