It’s time for basketball camp

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, the middle and high school gyms host the annual Freedom Basketball Fall Workouts or Open Gym for all students who are interested in playing basketball in fifth, sixth, seventh, or eighth grades. The fifth and sixth graders are working on their fundamentals such as layups, shooting, and dribbling.  They also practicing 2 on 2 and 3 on 3 squads. The 7th and 8th graders practice 5 on 5 games as if there are playing in a PIAA competition. Sometimes, there is an open gym for people who participate in the workouts.

Players are taught by Matt Klenk and Chad Hein who are the seventh and eighth grade coaches.  Sometimes, high school players help the seventh and eighth graders with their workouts.

Riley, a fifth grade player, shared his thoughts,  “It helps me get better with ball handling and shooting with my left hand.”

Mr. Nick, the fifth grade coach, explained, “The 5th and 6th graders are working on fundamentals.”

Basketball is a great opportunity for students of all abilities and ages to have fun and learn a great game.
